As I See It...

What? It's just what I think. Don't get all bent out of shape over it. Gah...

Oh JOY!

Well the Episcopal Church has done it again. They were making progress in the treatment of gays and lesbians, but per usual, they back-pedaled and have made gays and lesbians "less of a strain" on the Anglican Communion.
Who'd have thought that WELCOMING people into a church simply because they wanted to be part of something would cause a strain? I thought churches were supposed to welcome people for no reason at all and welcome them unconditionally.
Guess I was wrong.
I'm done with Christianity, really. They need to get their shit together. Not the Episcopal Church - Christians. Just decide if you're going to accept people or not.
Don't give them something and then take it away.
Later people.

Holy CRAP, Long time no post...

Alright. Sorry for the gross neglegence in the blog. Here are the details of my life for the last little bit.

  1. The Man and I are still together, and doing well. It's been a month, and we're still taking it one day at a time. We're happy, and get along very well. I can't complain in any way on this point.

  2. Jason's trip seems to have been a success! We went to Max's for dinner on the Friday he arrived, and he got to meet most of Paducah's Gay Mafia. He survived, and we went on a walking tour of downtown Paducah. Drove about a bit, and just kind of relaxed and had fun. Glad you came down, man. I really hope you enjoyed yourself, and you're welcome down at any time.

  3. After Jason left on Labo(u)r Day, I increasingly began getting sick. I went to the doctor, they thought it was strep throat. Went on pills, they didn't work - so I went back. They did a little blood work and I found out that I had MONO. NO I DID NOT CATCH IT FROM THE MAN! And, Jason don't panic, I am not contagious. Apparently, I have a very light case of it which means that at some point in the past, I had a light case. We're hoping that two light cases equal one case and that I'll never get it again. Even though some people get very sick, I've just run a bit of a fever, but that's about it. I got lucky.

  4. Since I was sick and stayed home (but called in a sub EVERY DAY) the High School where I was subbing found a qualified teacher and my last day there was last Friday. It's kinda of good that I'm gone because the job was horrible (that's a whole other post), but sad because the students were just getting used to me. Bittersweet, but expected. No hard feelings, but I'm kind of glad to be gone.

  5. I do have a couple of full time job prospects, though. One is hopefully with the state working as a job development specialist. Basically, I show people how to make a resumee, give them job skills advice, interviewing skills, etc. The other is at an Alternative School for students that have been expelled from schools in Paducah. I've interviewed at the Alternative School, but not at the state job. So, I'll keep you all up to date on all that stuff.

As far as I know, that's all I know about. I know it's been a long time, but that's the full extent of the update for now. If I think of anything else, I'll be sure and post it.

How about you guys? Anything exciting and new going on?

Long Time, No Post

Sorry about the long delay, but here's what's going on:
  1. Jason has made it safely down for his visit. We've already eaten at Max's.
  2. The Man and I are doing well. Very well. It's gross. lol...
  3. I've been called for an interview with 4 different school districts. Apparently, when it rains, it pours.
  4. Um, I can't think of anything else.

Yeah, life is kinda dull, but going well finally. Let's hope the luck holds for a while.

Upswing

The relationship is working. Quite well, I might add.
I'm working.
Regular pay is coming in.
I'm having company in about 11 days.
My house is clean.
I'm actually smiling. Often, actually.

It was a long drab summer. At least the closer I get to fall, things are starting to level off.

And that's a good thing.

Not Going to Screw THIS Up

I'm not going to screw this one up.
He seems to actually be interested in me.
The feeling is mutual.
Just taking things one step at a time.
ONE step at a time.

Things I Say Wrong, Apparently

The following is a list of words/phrases that I say incorrectly according to a friend of mine:
  1. envelope: I say ON-vuh-lope, not IN-veh-lope.
  2. advertisement: I say ad-VER-tiz-mint, instead of ad-ver-TIZE-ment.
  3. about: I say a-BOUGH-t, instead of a-BOAT.
  4. police: I say p'LEESE, instead of po-LEESE.
  5. Louisville: Seeing as how I'm from the state in which this city is based it's correctly pronounced lou-ah-vul, NOT loo-ee-ville. She just needs to be smacked for that.

This is a sampling of words, now here is a list of phrases that apparently make me "sound like a stupid hick".

  1. Fixing to: this means to get ready to do something. "I'm fixing to take a shower." It is not said "fixin' to". That means something else.
  2. All over hell, and half of Georgia: means that I've looked everywhere for something.
  3. Hotter than blue blazes: This phrase is self explanatory. The hottest part of a flame is the blue part. Basic chemistry. Makes perfect sense to me.
  4. chemist: This is a phrase that is used in my part of the country to describe a pharmacist. It's very common use in French, somehow it stuck around here. It's not as common anymore, but I still use it.
  5. full: Usually used to describe someone that has eaten too much. It's used that way here too, but more often it's used to describe someone that's drunk. Very drunk.

There are more, but right now they are escaping me. My point is simple: This "friend" isn't from the south. So to her, we're all (in her words) "backwards and need to learn to speak like the rest of the country." I find that a bit offensive. A language defines a group of people. It's part of their culture.

Why is it that the French, Germans, Japanese, Yoruba, etc., etc., can be proud of the way they speak, but Southerners have to be ashamed? I personally find the New York accent, and the Bostonian accent to be offensive, but you know what? It defines those people to their area.

I love different accents, languages, and dialects. I think they should be left alone. I'm going to continue to use my dialect and accent. It's part of who I am; and I'm not about to change that for anyone.

She'll just have to get used to it if she's going to be talking to me.
